Transforming Chronic Pain
We all naturally and habitually want to avoid pain. But what do you do when you've tried everything you know to try and chronic pain remains. Doctors may say, "you'll have to learn to live with it". But what does that mean and how can you do it?
For most people living with chronic pain, there are no easy answers or magic wands. And since each of us is unique, what works for me may not work for you. But sometimes, as in a nightmare, when you cultivate the courage and curiosity to turn around and face what you're running from, you may make an opening to experience something new and different. Approaching the sensations of pain with friendly interest and acceptance, new possibilities for change can arise.
For some, using hypnosis to find ways to quiet the mind, relax the body and calm emotional turmoil can, over time, dramatically reduce physical distress. "Entering the fire" of pain and suffering may become a path for spiritual growth for some. Finding meaning in the experience may make a huge difference in coping.
We might use hypnosis or meditation or cognitive techniques. We might be guided by your dreams or creative process. We may discover new approaches to self-care. With patience, courage and discipline, it is likely that you can experience a reduction in suffering and an expansion of your ability to find enjoyment and meaning in your life.
